They're
Parasites. |

Hurricane Katrina was truly a horrible event for hundreds of thousands of Americans. A virtual "Atlantis," where an entire city was almost washed away. What was left was a wasteland of mold-infested buildings, destruction, and a massive loss of human life. I followed this thing furiously. I watched their local newscast, via web streaming, as they white-knuckled in their chairs. It was haunting when the station manager interrupted them, while on the air, to tell them that it was time to get the hell out. I sat in my chair thinking, "Holy crap, this is it!"
As you can tell, I do not trust the media. Oh sure, they'll tell you that they're unbiased and straight-forward, but that's a bunch of shit. They're desperate for ratings, and money drives their existence. They sensationalize the most trivial things, and overtly key on elements of only the most tragic of human emotions. As the saying goes, "If it bleeds, it leads." I kinda don't blame them. They're preying on the ignorant of this country, which happens to be two-thirds of it. Hell, I'd probably do the same thing for that kind of cash. Regardless, because of this lack of trust, I found most of my Katrina news from the various blogs from people who rode the storm out. My favorite, by far, was The Interdictor. Reading this was more terrifying than reading the best novel by Koontz or King. Every day, I'd log on, and read the goings on down there. Oh sure, I read from the other news websites. Fox, CNN, MSNBC, etc., but don't think that I just took their word for things. These guys in that office building down there weren't just covering the news down there, they were living it. Day by day. The struggles with generators. The terror of watching the mob, and wondering if they'd ever be found. The struggle to find food. This guy should win a medal for his journalism. Fuck El-Baradei, give this guy the Nobel prize. He deserves it more than the World's Biggest Sucker.
But why, O web-tyrant, do you bring up parasites? It is because of the problems those poor, poor people down there are facing? Nope. You see, dear readers, it is the Katrina refugees that are the true parasites. It's time we give the dog a flea bath. Seriously.
In the early days after the hurricane, I can honestly say, I didn't feel this way. The refugees were truly in need of assistance. My libertarian side hates to admit, but I even agree that some government assistance was needed. Hell, these people lost everything! Gone in the span of ten hours. It's heart-breaking to say the least.
But, I still don't get it, you say. Why are they parasites?
Stay with me. Here's where the media starts to selectively tell you stuff. They want you to believe in the suffering and the emotion. They guide your opinion, as they show you the devastation and massive loss of life. It is their goal to make this event equal in magnitude, as if Osama himself launched a nuclear warhead and leveled the city that way. What they don't tell you, is that three-fourths of the parishes that the media covered, were the ghettos and the blighted areas. These were areas inhabited by the worst of people. Imagine the shittiest part of your city. This was it.

Now just imagine what happened to those
people. Here you have gang members, prostitutes, drug-addicts,
thieves and murderers who have now been emancipated from their
neighborhoods. If you go to
The Interdictor,
you'll read about how these dregs of society
saw the hurricane as their opportunity to take their city into their own.
Massive looting, murdering, and unspeakable crimes happened on
unsupervised streets. It was "The Lord of The Flies" in real life. So, here comes your friendly neighborhood Imperial Government. "We're here to help," they say. ...and they're met with gunfire. Convoys of food and water, attacked by the very people they've come to assist. So the Imperial Government hatches some stupid plans. Stupid Plan #1: Lets put these people in free housing, and give them free money for food. Sounds nice, on the surface. However, when we hear about how the parasites spent their food money on cars, guns, and tittie bars, us taxpayers are not enthused. Stupid Plan #2: Lets re-located them to other cities. That sounds nice, as well. However the Imperial Government forgot one little thing...these parasites were the dregs of society in New Orleans...they'll be the dregs of society wherever they go.
Put these two "plans" together, and you're mixing fire and gasoline. So, now we have let loose the worst elements of one of the most crime-riddled cities into the populaces of other cities. What do you think happened? Yep..crime sky-rocketed. Let's focus on Houston. Normally, I hate everything "Texas," but for once, I'll show them some compassion. In January, Time Magazine wrote an article about the increasing crime wave that gripped the city. Gang activity and drug traffic was in order. Ironically, now that the parasites are out of New Orleans, Willie Nagin says that his Chocolate City is a "virtual Mayberry" and that crime has drastically decreased. Maybe because you removed the parasites, Willie? Hmm.... And don't forget about the millions in fraud-related crimes too! Don't think that the parasites won't EVER retract that hand that takes free shit from the Imperial Government. As long as the cup keeps running over, they'll be drinking it down. Hell, when the Government removed them from their luxury hotels and cruise ships, did they finally go out and get a fucking job? Nope. They marched on Washington, demanding MORE handouts! More handouts for the parasites!
These are just fleas that have moved to a dry part of the dog. It's time to stop spending taxpayer dollars on these people, and force them to DO something constructive with their lives, and stop leeching off anyone and everything they can attach themselves to.
Now, don't get me wrong. There were thousands of good, law-abiding citizens who were victims too. However, these people have begun to put their lives back together. They've begun the re-building process. They've made strides to heal emotional wounds. They're injecting themselves back into society, and making a life for themselves. I respect these people, honestly.
But these are the people that the media won't show you. That's not good for ratings.
