Week 2:
Settling In

My second week wasn't bad.  The 30-minute drive (all highway) sucks, and is killing me financially (gas prices), but the classes aren't bad.

The questions, regarding my laptop, are starting to roll in.  First it was the instructors, who thought it very innovative of me to be taking notes like that.  Now, it's the students (whom I still refer to as "kids").  They're infatuated with the idea that I can take notes in class, using a plethora of different colors and line thicknesses, and then they're already stored in an organized, and efficient way for me to go back and review them.

For instance, with a regular spiral notebook, notes are pretty linear.  You start on the first page, and go in a chronological order.  There's no flexibility, unless you were to jam some "extra" notes in the margins of the paper.  It could get cluttered and messy.

Right now, I'm using Agilix' GoBinder.  It's specifically for tablet pc students, that makes note-taking much more dynamic.

No...these are not my classes.  I just bummed this picture off the web.

As you can see, each class gets a tab (at the top).  Each tab is a "virtual notebook," where you can write all your notes (which are kept as files, so you can re-order them if you need to.  Each "note" is displayed on the tree, at the left.  I can also "print" things to GoBinder, which means that if I find something useful on the web, I can just capture that page, and stuff it in my program here.  Finally, all my textbooks, enrollment forms, and classroom handouts have been scanned, into pdf files, and inserted into this program as well.  That means that everything related to my schoolwork is all available, right here in my little computer.  Finally, the program allows me to "search" for keywords, and it will bring back results from anything in the program, including my handwritten notes.  Cool, huh?

But enough of me whoring my computer, and its software.
