I've been asked to clarify this for some of my readers. This, because I actually go by a few nicknames, but for my own reasons, I choose to use THIS one, on my website.
"Big Poppa" is a song, written and performed by the late "Notorious B.I.G." I can't say that I'm a huge B.I.G. fan, but some of the lyrics of this tune are actually kind of funny. I guess the song just stuck in my head, after I heard it the first time.
I'm sitting in my little veal cube, at work one day, and as usual, I'm talking a lot of shit. See, at the time, I was the only guy in our accounting department. While some folks might feel intimidated by this, I actually felt empowered. I was well known for saying outrageous, off the wall things. One week, I would be going on and on about my secret love for Gillian Anderson, the other week, I'm proclaiming my devotion to Kathy, my co-worker, who buckles with embarassment whenever I gush on her, which also makes all the other women in the office crack up. Like I said, I talk a lot of shit, and they all know I'm just full of it. So one day I'm at work, and this week I'm on the Gillian Anderson kick. Someone in the office has found a picture of her in the newspaper, so she cut it out, and hung it in my cube when I wasn't looking. Of course, that's just like throwing gasoline on a fire. They all know that'll just get me started. Sure enough, as soon as I notice the picture, I'm all over it. One girl there, tries to tell me that Gillian wouldn't give me the time of day, and I'm just firing back that she's be all over me like white on rice, etc. etc. etc.. Immediately, I respond with the, now classic, line: "I love it when she calls me big pop-pa!" This was followed by loud groans from everyone, and then a burst of laughter.
From then on, every now and then, I'd get called "Big Poppa" at work. Considering the fact that I'm not the skinniest of guys anymore, it kinda fits anyway. So there you have it. The origin of "Big Poppa." Knock yourself out.
Here's the song, by the way: Notorious B.I.G. - "Big Poppa"
